PSE mark certification is a mandatory product safety certification in Japan, which is regulated by METI.
Within the Electrical appliance and materials Safety Law, there are 457 products applied, which are divided as two Categories - Category A ( PSE): “specified electrical appliances and materials” and Category B ( PSE): “non-specified (other) electrical appliances and materials”.
Category A products lists 116 items and Category B products includes 341 items.
S-mark certification is applied for those products, which are not regulated by the Electrical appliance and materials Safety Law. S-mark is regulated by Steering Council of Safety Certification for Electrical and Electronic Appliances and Parts of Japan.
consumers requires PSC mark certification before being importing into Japan. It is regulated by METI.
There are two categories:
Category A includes 4 types and Category B includes 6 types.
SG mark certification is applied for those products, which are either category A and category B, or out of category A and category B.

Based on the Energy Conservation Law, the Top Runner Program is introduced by METI in Japan as a staple energy conservation measure to advance energy efficiency of machinery and equipment. The program covers 32 product items including construction materials and it will be further expanded during next reviewing of Top Runner Standards.

JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standards) are the Japanese national standards in the field of agricultural, forestry, fisheries and food industry. As long as products and services conform to the standards, the JAS logo can be attached on them.

Japan developed standard of steel structure fabrication to certify the steel structure manufacturing factory.
According to the scale of construction and the scope of steel used,the Ministry of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism (MLIT) classifies them into five grades (S, H, M, R, J).
The Welders for steel framed building welding require qualification certification in terms of different welding method, type, thickness and so on.
In Japan, the bolt-nut-washer set and flange used in wind tower are required to be evaluated in terms of METI regulations .
The product needs to be tested and the factory’s quality control system will be reviewed to determine all requirements are met and the product quality is guaranteed.
After product testing and quality control system reviewing, all documents will be evaluated by METI.
Evaluation for fabrication of steel structure under Construction Law for MLIT
In Japan, most fabrication steel structure manufacturers are certified by MLIT. Recently overseas manufacturers such as Korea, China steel structure manufacturers are certified by MLIT. In Japan, mandatory approval is not required for food container or material before selling. The Food Sanitation Law and other Acts’ in Japan have made detailed provisions on the definition, labeling, supervision plan, inspection, registration authority, business and punishment of food utensils, containers and packages.
Except for the requirement of MHLW (Ministry of health, labour and welfare), the manufacturer of food container/packaging material must comply with the voluntary industry standards and requirements promulgated by various industry associations, such as JHOPA, JHPA, and JPA. As a condition of procurement, Japanese food manufacturers need a proof of compliance with the above voluntary standards.
